Hi.  My name is Carmen Silva.  I am 11 years old and I have Juvenile Diabetes.  I have a Diabetes Detection Dog named Zula.  Zula is a Golden Retreiver.  I was lucky to get Zula from Ricci Brinson in Barker NY.  Zula is being trained to tell when my blood sugar is high or low.

Zula can tell if my blood sugar is high or low when I breath on her.  When my blood sugar is too low or too high, I make her speak by putting my hand in a fist and putting it up to my chest.  Then I give her a treat.  I do this so Zula will bark at me to warn me that my blood sugar is too high or too low.  Zula is a very intelligent dog and she makes a great Diabetes Detection Dog!

Thank you Canine Helpers, Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and everyone who donated money to help train Zula and me.
