Denver An Assistance Dog by Amy S. Clark

In February 1995 I sent out letters to get information and applications from a number of different service dog organizations. Canine Helpers for the Handicapped, Inc. in Lockport, NY was one of the organizations that replied. Since they were the closest to me, I knew people who had their dogs, and I liked their way of doing things, I applied to get a dog from them. In March they came to my apartment and did an in-home interview. In May they brought three dogs for me to choose from. One was a hound mix, one was a Border Collie/Lab mix, and the other was Denver, a Golden Retriever. I chose Denver.
